Nothing says luxury to me like having the time to read a book. I'm so grateful to have these two weeks off over the holidays to relax, rejuvenate and read.
The harder I work, the more I recognize the importance of relaxing and feeding my soul. It's taken me almost all year to figure out what that means to me (fun time always used to be time spent building my business or working on theatre projects, but now that's my full-time gig I've had to find something else to create variety) but I think I'm starting to get the hang of relaxing again after years of being on the go non-stop.
I am determined to make relaxation and rejuvenation a priority in the coming year. Not rest. And not just carving out enough time to sleep or give my brain a break or do household chores (which can be hard enough) but also for the “non-essential” activities that bring me joy outside of the guilty shadow of “I should be working right now”. Like reading or going for a walk in the sun. I know I'm not alone in this busy-ness overwhelm. It is a common theme for entrepreneurs and certainly the majority of my social circle.
So my 2017 New Year's Resolution, as it were, is to take time on a weekly basis for one completely non-work-related, non-household-chore-related joyful activity and to book at least two full days off in a row every quarter as a “holiday” to keep my soul batteries recharged and full of enthusiasm and energy. What are you going to do to look after yourself this year?
